Hi Hal,

Squiers are full sized Stratocasters, but they just have a thinner body, if that's what you mean. You are absolutety right, Squiers do have a starter pack, but included in the package is the mid level Affinity Stratocasters, not this model. I agree with you about JamPlay. It is the best online.

No question about it! A Fender Squire is one of the best choices for starter guitar that I know of, but I would have to say as a caveat, that if you are a teenager, say 15 or older, you may want to think about a full sized Strat.

That said, if you’re a parent looking for a great guitar for a youngster to learn on, a Squire is a GREAT choice. They also have some Squire starter kits, too, which include a gig bag, DVD a tuner and other accessories,

One last thing, Den. I noticed at the top of your page, you have a link to JamPlay. I just want to say, I am a member and I think it is one of the best ways to take guitar lessons – anywhere!

I agree with you that the Squier Standard Stratocaster is not a bad choice when starting out as a guitar player. It has good value to it and it is highly affordable.

Nice review of the Squier Standard Stratocaster. Not a bad choice if you are just starting out. Of course, that is what hints at the reason they put Squier on the guitar. Overall I have played a few of them that were owned by my friends and it is not that bad if you just starting to learn the ropes on becoming a guitar player. Also do not give up because we know that playing the guitar can be a challenge, but can really open your eyes to music.
