Squier Standard Telecaster Review

Squier Standard Telecaster-Squier Standard Telecaster Review

The Squier Standard Telecaster is the top of the line among the Squier Series Telecaster. This guitar is patterned after the Fender Telecasters but in a lower price with lower specifications. It is manufactured by Fender in its China or Indonesia factory. The Squier Telecaster has the following models.

  • Standard
  • Affinity
There are also other specialized models with a price range higher than the Standard Model. They are:
  • Classic Vibe Telecaster ’50s
  • Vintage Modified ’72 Telecaster Thinline

Features

The Standard Telecaster guitar is fitted with a fast-action “C”-shaped neck profile patterned on a late ’60s Telecaster. It has a hot single-coil pickup in the bridge position which provides all the bite you want for stinging leads while in the neck position, the Standard Telecaster’s warm-sounding chrome-covered single-coil pickup helps you find your own voice.

  • Dual single-coil Telecaster pickups with three-way switching
  •  22-fret rosewood fingerboard on a  “C”-shaped profile  Maple neck and
  • Strings-thru-bodyTelecaster bridge with block saddles

Specifications

Body

Made of Agathis which is not standard with Fender Guitars which have Alder bodies. It is finished in Polyurethane.

Neck

It has 22 frets with a choice of either a Maple or Rosewood fretboard. It has a Polyurethane finish with Pearloid dots and Medium Jumbo frets. The nut is synthetic bone. This guitar is equipped with a standard truss rod.

Electronics

It has a Standard Single-coil Tele pickup in the bridge position while an Alnico Magnet Single-coil Pickup which is covered in Chrome is in the neck position. A volume and tone control is  provided while a three-way pickup selector switch will give you three pickup configuration:

  • bridge pickup
  • bridge+ neck pickup
  • neck pickup

Hardware

It has a six Standard Saddle Strings Through- Body Tele with block saddles and a standard die-cast tuning machines. All hardware are finished in Chrome. The pickguard is a 3-Ply Parchment, and a  4-Bolt Engraved neck plate is provided. It has a barrel type switch tip and both the control knobs are knurled flat-top.

Price

This guitar retails at $250 which is not bad for a low priced guitar made by Fender.

Squier Standard Telecaster – Vintage Blondeblank

Pros

  • Good Price
  • It has 22 frets
  • Parts availability for upgrades and repairs
  • Made by Fender
  • Fixed bridge which is good for beginners

Cons

  • The body is made of Agathis which is a cheaper alternative to Alder which is standard among Fender guitars.

Conclusion

This is a good Telecaster guitar for beginners and for those who cannot afford a real Fender. The fixed bridge is also good for those who are still practicing to avoid detuning problems inherent to tremolo bridges. Fixed bridges will also produce more sustain than tremolo bridges. I would recommend this than the Telecasters made by other companies with the same price range.
