What is a Dreadnought Guitar?

Updated September 7, 2019 By Den 2 Comments

What is a Dreadnought Guitar? The “Dreadnought Guitar” is a type of acoustic guitar body developed by guitar manufacturer C.F. Martin & Company.

The dreadnought acoustic guitar body is much larger than most other acoustic guitars that have existed at the time of the guitar model creation.

The  guitar's size results in a bolder and often louder tone. Nowadays, other manufacturers followed suit and made their dreadnought models as well. It has to be noted that C.F. Martin and Company is the original manufacturer of the dreadnought guitars.

The most popular and the best sounding dreadnought guitar is the Martin D-45. It is also the most expensive acoustic guitar aside from the custom made ones of course.

The quality of the tone woods they use is superb, and the craftsmanship is next to none. This guitar is actually a work of art by itself. That is before you even hear its sound. Once it makes a few notes, it is heaven to the ears. It is the best sounding acoustic guitar on the market. The only thing that surpasses it are the custom made ones.

This acoustic guitar is the best sounding guitar available in the market, but unfortunately, a lot of people cannot afford it. Personally, even though Martin Guitars, which I think is overpriced, is still worth as an investment.

Later on in the future, there will be no available wood which is of the same quality they are using in the manufacturing of their guitars. They will have to resort to lower quality wood as the stocks are dwindling.

The value of this guitar could increase well in the future because guitars will not be made the same as it is today.

So if you are a musician or a collector you should consider collecting one of this incredible instruments. It could very well have a good return on investment.

Cheers,

Den

I just signed my son up for guitar lessons last week. I’m in the market for a guitar but know nothing about them. I never heard of a dreadnought guitar before. Then again, I know nothing about guitars. I am glad i came across this article. I’m definitely going to consider a dreadnought guitar when I finally make a decision.

    Thanks

    Jack

      Hi Jack,

You should consider having a dreadnought as your first acoustic guitar. It has the most full sounding acoustic guitar because of its size. Martin Dreadnought is the best sounding dreadnought guitar in the market.

      Thanks for the comments,

      Den
