Summary
Model: Fender American Deluxe Telecaster
Retail Price: $1700
Rating Stars: 5/5
Bottom Line: The American Standard Telecaster is already a superb instrument but if you have extra money I recommend you take the American Deluxe Model. I don’t mind the S1 switch, the brass saddles, and the staggered locking tuners. This can be retrofitted into an American Standard Model.
What is unique about the American Deluxe model is the compound radius neck. If you like bending notes and you need a faster neck, this is the neck you need. The Standard Telecaster do not have this feature.
The Benefits of an Alder Body and a Maple Neck
The body of the American Deluxe Telecaster is a single cutaway of select alder to give it a crisp, clear, and bright tone. This model comes in a wide array of colors finished with gloss urethane to maintain its appearance for a prolonged period of time.
This version Fender’s famed Telecaster features a bound-top body for added protection and a belly cut that allows the instrument to fit more comfortably against the player’s torso.
The American Deluxe Telecaster neck is made from maple to further add to the bright tone produced by its alder body. It is bolted on to add resonance and sustain, as well as even more brightness to the guitar’s sound.
This type of attachment also makes it easier to repair this Telecaster when it is damaged. Most versions of these instruments feature a modern C-soft neck for more comfortable playing. The fretboard has a compound radius for easier string bending
This guitar’s fretboard comes in both maple and rosewood varieties. Using maple gives the fretboard a more solid feel and arguably a brighter sound. On the other hand, the use of rosewood gives the American Deluxe Telecaster a richer sound and a softer feel to play due to the wood’s porous quality. Both versions contain 22 medium jumbo-sized frets with dot inlays.
State-of-the-Art Fender N3 Single Coil Pickups
Perhaps one of the most noticeable differences between the standard and deluxe versions of the American Telecaster is the type of pickup used in both the neck and bridge.
While still not featuring a dedicated middle pickup, the Deluxe American Telecaster features N3 single-coil pickups in the bridge and the neck to keep the distortion and hum when playing to an absolute minimum.
These pickups utilize alnico magnets, which give the guitar’s sound more warmth and clarity. The insulated metal core of these N3 single-coils from Fender differ in their thickness and composition to enhance tone.
Another key selling point of these pickups is that Fender uses custom wire gauges to increase the responsiveness of the American Deluxe Telecaster.

Special S-1 Switching Electronics and Controls
There are special electronics featured on the Fender American Deluxe Telecaster in the form of S-1 Switching, which gives a guitarist more tonal options by allowing for more pickup writing configurations.
With the S-1 switch on, both pickups are wired in series which will give a fatter sound. This is done through a simple switch, which does not greatly alter the classic appearance of the Telecaster.
The controls featured on the Fender American Deluxe Telecaster are given a chrome finish to add durability and resistance to corrosion. It has master volume and tone controls as well as a three-way pickup switch to select between the different pickups on the guitar.
The guitar’s bridge is fixed and features a six-saddles to adjust the action of the strings to allow more sonic configurations. The saddles and the bridge plate is manufactured using solid brass for more tonal quality and sustain.
The American Deluxe Telecaster also features staggard locking tuners, which helps prevent the instrument from going out of tune because of slipping or winding issues.
Pricing
This guitar retails at $1700, about $450 more expensive than the American Standard Model.
